SU IRB & Office of Research Support
We provide support, resources, and oversight to SU faculty, staff, and students who engage in research that includes human participants and their data. We also provide training and educational materials. We are registered with the Office for Human Research Protections and the Department of Health & Human Services, Assurance # FWA00010533 (7/31/26).
What We Do and Who We Are
We ensure institutional compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as with university policies. This means that the SU Institutional Review Board and its Office of Research Support is tasked with ensuring institutional compliance around research involving human subjects and their data.
To comply with these federal regulations and with SU policies, all SU affiliates must submit any proposal involving human participants to the IRB, and receive a determination from us about that proposal before beginning their research.
Additionally, all federally funded grants require evidence of institutional IRB review. This includes submitting a protocol to our office, as well as producing evidence of Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research Training, which for Seattle University affiliates means CITI training. We work closely with the SU Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP).
Lastly, we have a duty to report Incidents, both to the university and to the Department of Health & Human Services. Incidents that need to be reported include serious or continuing noncompliance with IRB determinations or with 45 CFR (part 46), unanticipated problems involving risks to human participants or others, and any suspension/termination of IRB Approval.

General Resources for Researchers
OneAegis
OneAegis is the submission portal for all IRB proposals. It is linked to your SU account, and you use your SU username and password to log in. You will use OneAegis to submit new Exempt, Expedited, and Full-Board proposals to the SU IRB and you will, in turn, receive feedback from us through this portal. OneAegis will also manage Modification Requests, Continuing Review Reports, Close-Out Reports for Expedited and Full-Board protocols, and Reports of an Unanticipated Problem/Adverse Event.
CITI Training
CITI training is required of researchers working with human participants by most US IRB offices, including the SU IRB. If you have an SU CITI account, login and proceed. If you do not have one, click "Register," then enter Seattle University for "Select Your Organization Affiliation," check appropriate boxes, then click "Continue..." Enter first and last name, and SU email. After registration, click “View Courses for Seattle University.” Our modules have not been affected by the federal freeze.
Office of Human Research Protections
The OHRP, within the Department of Health and Human Services, is the federal authority that issues guidance on the welfare and protections of individuals involved in human subjects research. The OHRP is also the authority with whom U.S. institutions register their IRBs and obtain their FWAs. Institutions receiving federal funds must have an IRB to review and monitor all funded human subject research. Additionally, institutions must submit periodic letters of assurance to the federal government.
